Aromatherapy

Worldwide RESEARCH had demonstrated repeatedly the amazing versatility of ESSENTIAL OILS in the treatment of human health conditions. Essential oils are used in hospitals throughout Europe, because of their ability to combat staph and strep infections, and to promote general well-being.

Pure, therapeutic grade essential oils are the only oils I use. Products representing themselves as essential oils, and sold in gift, drug, or specialty stores do NOT have the complex organic chemistry nor the high frequency to combat disease or support the human immune system.

What Is AROMATHERAPY?
Aromatherapy means to treat with aromas through inhalation, but it is much more than that. Besides diffusion, aromatherapy also involves the topical application of essential oils, and even, in some cases, the ingestion of them.

What Are ESSENTIAL OILS?
Essential oils are very volatile liquids distilled from plant life, including herbs, trees, bushes, and their flowers, roots and seeds. They have often been called the “life blood” of plants. They are highly oxygenating to the human body, easily absorbed, and carry nutrients to the cells. Chemically, they are very complex, and contain many compounds which have yet to be identified.

It has been demonstrated that “essential oils stimulate the secretion of antibodies, neurotransmitters, endorphins, hormones, and enzymes” according to D. Gary Young, N.D. in his ESSENTIAL OILS DESK REFERENCE available from  www.ylwisdom.com .

Are All Essential Oils the Same?
Absolutely not. Essential oils come in several grades. Among the grade A oils, those certified by AFNOR (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) or ISO (Int’l Standards Organization) are the best of the therapeutic grade oils. Testing can determine whether the oil has been adulterated or thinned with other constituents, or if it has contaminants indicating that the oil has been distilled with alcohol or solvents.

PURITY is very important in essential oils, because they are quickly absorbed into the human body. Some classifications of oils, like sesquiterpenes, even cross the blood/brain barrier. This has implications for the future in combating diseases like MS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s.

How Can I Begin To Use Essential Oils?
It is best to start slowly, so you do not get overwhelmed with too much new information all at once. With your most persistent health challenges in mind, there are several helpful reference books which can suggest oils to you.

I highly recommend the Essential Oils Desk Reference by Essential Science Publishing, if you are interested in the science behind the use of essential oils. However, it is pricey. For beginners, the easiest place to start is with the coil bound Quick Reference Guide for Using Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley, available through www.abundanthealth4u.com. It is also an excellent resource for bottles and diffusers.

Essential oils are a wonderful way to learn to take care of your health and that of your family, without toxic side-effects, and without years of study.

The Story of THIEVES* Essential Oil
This story has many variations, but bears retelling because it imparts time-honored wisdom.

During the middle ages, there were traders who carried valuable herbs, spices and oils from the Orient to Europe, mostly by sea. When the bubonic plague would enter a city, the governors would close those ports, so the disease would not spread easily to other areas. Spice traders whose ships were stranded in the quarantined city were thusly deprived of their livelihood. They resorted to robbing the dead and dying. In order to protect themselves from the deadly disease, they first covered themselves with spices and oils, and did their dastardly deeds. When they returned to their lodgings, the thieves removed their contaminated clothes, and anointed themselves again with their oils and herbs.

When apprehended for their crimes, the ruler promised them leniency if they would disclose their formula, which they did. Young Living Essential Oil, Thieves*, is based on that formula, and includes a few other essential oils from other continents, as well.

Weber State University in Utah has conducted many studies on the effectiveness of Thieves*. It has proven effective agains staph, strep, and other airborne microorganisms. Thieves* is antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, and anti-infectious.

A Note from Linda
There are some products that contain Thieves that I would never be without. Thieves spray comes in a small bottle, and fits into a small purse or a pocket. I spray it on doorknobs, toilet seats, in my mouth, into the air (avoid eyes), and on my hands. Thieves waterless handcleaner, unlike its toxic cousins on the market, is great to have in your car after pumping gasoline, or when water is unavailable. Both products come in economical three-packs. There is also a concentrated all-purpose Thieves cleaner, which you mix with water to clean household surfaces. Thieves antiseptic wipes, bar soap, foaming hand soap, and lozenges round out the product line, as well as mouthwash and toothpaste. I credit Thieves toothpaste for healing my gum disease and preventing surgery ten years ago.

Swine and Avian Flu **ALERT**
Until further studies are completed and published, it is not known exactly which essential oils are helpful or effective against the current pandemic viruses. However, you may wish to consider having these anti-viral essential oils on hand to bolster your immune system: cinnamon bark, clove, coriander, eucalyptus radiata, melaleuca quinquenervia (not the other melaleucas), melissa, palmarosa, and rosemary officinalis. Also, the blends Egyptian Gold* and Thieves*.

Thieves* contains clove, cinnamon bark, lemon, eucaplytus and rosemary oils and is strongly antiviral and antibacterial. Thieves* is an excellent oil to diffuse in your home and office where there may be poor ventilation. There are many diffusers on the market today – contact me if you need help deciding.

Please see the Health & Healing Page for more information on how to protect your immune system, besides using therapeutic grade essential oils.
