A Course in Miracles

A Course In Miracles is a modern curriculum designed to transform your way of thinking about the world and yourself. It is a psychologically sound system for undoing time and the ego, written in three books: a text, workbook with 365 lessons, and a manual for teachers. It is logical (although circuitous in its presentation) and practical, and presents an alternative to the ego’s thought system of guilt, sin, punishment, and a way to establish holy relationships, and, ultimately, to awaken from this dream.

A Course In Miracles does not require belief in order to be effective. It does, however, require “a little willingness” to find another way home besides the path the ego offers. It is not a religion, although its presentation is in traditional Christian terminology. It is not a channeled writing, but is most certainly inspired. Its author purports to be Jesus, although it is not necessary to believe this for the Course to help you.

I find A Course In Miracles to be invaluable in my practice, and often introduce some of its concepts into therapy if they are helpful. For example, once a client understands the pervasiveness of the concept of projection, as used in the Course, I often see an amazing shift from victimhood to empowerment as the client reinterprets the events of his/her life.

No one can escape from illusions unless he looks at them, for not looking is the way they are protected. There is no need to shrink from illusions, for they cannot be dangerous. We are ready to look more closely at the ego’s thought system because together we have the lamp that will dispel it, and since you realize you do not want it, you must be ready…

What is healing but the removal of all that stands in the way of knowledge?…

Be not afraid, therefore, for what you will be looking at is the source of fear, and you are beginning to learn that fear is not real.

Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Therein lies the peace of God.  - A Course In Miracles

Who among us would not like to “undo the past in the present and thus release the future”? We live at the end of an age, when all our misperceptions are converging in the NOW, to be perceived again, this time in TRUTH. In other words, you have an opportunity to correct the past by “choosing again”, as the Course would say. When we leave this earth school, and awaken from this dream, what will we take with us? What we have learned. And what we have each learned by ‘trial and error’ is no longer “error” once the lesson is learned. (How else could you have learned it?) A Course In Miracles offers a way to dismantle your misperceptions and learn more quickly.Dr. Kenneth Wapnick of the Foundation for A Course In Miracles was intimately involved with the Course once it had been written down, and has an amazing understanding of it.

Every reality in your mind sets up an energy wave to attract people who are in tune with that reality. Again?

As a result of unconscious projection, we observe and react to our unrecognized personal traits in other people.” William A. Miller, Finding the Shadow in Daily Life
